Treatment

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease. Numerous factors facture in the onset and the deterioration of the disease – infections, psychogenic stress, mechanical damages to skin, smoking, alcoholism, certain medications, and obesity contribute in addition to a hereditary predisposition in patients. Modern treatments are effective in managing psoriasis, but the disease remains incurable. Treatments are tailored to each patient and depend on various factors, disease activity, the scope of the impact of the disease, on the type of disease, as well as accompanying diseases. Mild forms of psoriasis respond well to treatment with medication which is applied to the affected area of skin (topical treatment). Moderate to severe psoriasis is treated with ultraviolet radiation (phototherapy) or systemic treatment with tablets, capsules, injections, or infusion.

Patients undergoing treatment for psoriasis should maintain healthy lifestyle, a healthy diet, regular physical activity, and maintain optimum weight. Alcohol consumption should be limited, smoking is prohibited.
