Surgery

Surgery
First therapeutic option for Crohn’s disease is medical treatment. However, some people with Crohn’s disease eventually need surgery. Surgery is needed if doctor finds cancerous tissue or potentially cancerous indicators in the colon or medications cause severe side effects or they’ve stopped working effectively. Surgery is also needed and/or if Crohn’s disease is creating complications such as bowel abscess, bowel perforation, fistulas, intestinal blockage or obstruction.
